FINALLY!! AN UPDATE!!!
The surgeon came out to the room where we were waiting at about 12:00pm and said that the surgery went great! He also told us that when we see Riley, we're going to notice that he looks "WAY WORSE" now than when we brought him in...and he was right!!! They had to do some major over correcting in the reconstruction since his brain has been growing into the wrong spot for too long. So...for about a year, in the doctor's words, Riley will look like a "Neanderthal"(ahhhh). He also has some bolts and screws in the bridge of his nose, protruding between his eyes that will dissolve in about a year... He used 2 units of blood so far, and they told us that those units of blood were directly donated to him by Steve and my Grandpa...which is really cool. Riley is in the Pediatric ICU right now, and will be for at least another 24 hours. He's still in a pretty comatose state, opening his eyes the slightest bit every once in a while. He's also grimacing, and moaning quite a bit. They have him on morphine, so hopefully his pain won't last for too long. When I left the PICU a few minutes ago, Riley had a 101 degree fever. The nurses are calling the surgeon to notify him. Other than that, Riley is perfect and sweet as ever. I'm spending the night in the PICU tonight with about 20 other sick babies, so I won't be able to post until tomorrow morning sometime. Here are some pictures of Riley after his surgery. They're kind of graphic, so if you don't like watching "Life in the E.R." on TLC, then don't scroll down!! Keep Praying. Thanks for checkin' in!
Riley's Diagnosis
Riley James Faiai is my 2 year old son who was born with Craniosynostosis and probable Pfeiffer syndrome. When he was 5 months old, Riley had surgery to reconstruct his skull. This blog is the journal, story, and timeline that has helped me put Riley's Journey into words. What a sweet boy! I am glad everything went well.
I wouldn't worry about the fever so much. Both of my kids had it too. After everything he has been through - it's pretty normal.
I am so glad that the surgery is over. You must be relieved. Take a deep breath...it's should all be down hill from here. Remember to take of yourself as well. Take breaks....go for a walk...get some fresh air. I know it's heard to tear away from the hospital, but you need to be in top notch condition for him.
Good luck with his recovery!!
Hugs,
Cindy
Lauren - praise God everything went well. We will pray that his temperature doesn't go any higher than 101, that he will not be in any more pain and that her recovers super fast. As Cindy says, try to get some rest, okay?
Give that baby boy great big hugs and kisses from auntie Fran, uncle JR and the girls!
Thank you Lord for watching over this sweet little baby of yours.
