Riley's Diagnosis

Riley James Faiai is my 2 year old son who was born with Craniosynostosis and probable Pfeiffer syndrome. When he was 5 months old, Riley had surgery to reconstruct his skull. This blog is the journal, story, and timeline that has helped me put Riley's Journey into words. Appointment Update 12/14/06

Riley had BAER test number two today, and we came home with some positive results! Riley has NO hearing loss in his right ear! There is fluid in both ears, so they'll put tubes in both of his ears during his surgery...which isn't a big deal! For now, we know that he has a pretty dramatic hearing loss in his left ear and NO hearing loss in his right ear. Today, the doctor also said that the hearing loss might be a direct effect of the amount of fluid in his ear, and that there's a huge possibility that things could totally clear up once the surgery is over! This is GREAT news, and what we've been praying for. Thanks so much to everyone who has prayed specifically for these appointments in the past 2 weeks. Tomorrow, we're in Santa Monica. Not sure what will evolve from that appointment, but you can be sure that I'll update this blog ASAP!

Speaking of "blogs":
Starting NOW, this blog will be soley dedicated to medical updates regarding RIley's condition. I've started a separate blog where lighter descussion will take place (ie pumpkin patch trips, zoo outings etc...). http://theothercause.blogspot.com

Yay! What great news! I am sure that the tubes in his ears will help to clear everything up! I am so glad to hear that his hearing has not been affected in one of his ears! This is wonderful! ~Love, Loretta

Hi Lauren
This is Toni Artie's sister. I wanted to let you know that Artie sent us the email and I was able to read your blogg. You are an amazing mother and your faith in God is truly inspiring ot me. You and you family will be in all our prayers. I have shared your story with my husband and we are very touched. I know how hard it is to deal with our children when they are hurting. I will never forget the day Jason was diagnosed with MS. As mothers we will do anything to help our children. I will keep reading your updates and share them with my faith community. You are in our thoughts. Love Toni & Alan Reinicke. XXXOOO
