Thank you so much to everyone who has encouraged and supported us in the past couple weeks and months. To those of you who fasted and prayed all day for Riley yesterday, I cannot tell you how humbling, and what an HONOR it is to have people pleading for God's mercy on MY FAMILY'S behalf. It's been such a cool testimony to share with other moms in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. My heart aches and sinks to the pit of my stomach every time I look at Riley's sweet face today, but I cannot even begin to explain the amount of peace and confidence I feel in my sons recovery process. I feel so strong! I owe this all to you, who pray, encourage and support us through this situation. Thanks again. SO MUCH.
On with the update...
It was a long night in the PICU last night. Me, and the other 2 mom's (both Christians) talked about each other's circumstances, and one of them even prayed over Riley. Sweet.
Riley is much more coherent today, but he still hasn't opened his eyes, because they're too swollen to open today. The intense swelling will persist for about 2 days. Needless to say, Riley looks EVEN WORSE today than he did yesterday. But the doctor's really did a great job at prepping us on what he would look like, so it isn't too much of a surprise to us. He's still on morphine, and Tylenol for a fever that just won't quit, but the nurses aren't worried and said that the fever is very typical. In spite of the way he looks, Riley made HUGE progress overnight. This morning, the doctor removed one of his 3 IV's, they removed his Foley catheter and remove the draining tube from his head. I spoke with the surgeon this morning, and he said Riley will need to stay in the PICU for at least another 3 days, just because they want the pain and swelling to go down before they place him in a regular pediatric room. We're surrounded by great doctor's and nurses which also helps the situation tremendously. That's about all the news from here. Just waiting for the swelling to subside mainly. We do need prayer however, for Riley's fluid intake. They're giving him a ton of fluid and no one can really understand where it's going. His catheter was pretty much dry all night. His stomach is very bloated, but they said that has to do with gas...it takes a while for the digestive system to get back in order after this type of surgery. Here are some pictures. Keep praying. Thanks for checkin' in!
WARNING. Graphic Pictures.
